Scrappin' Good Times Blog

I just got home from an employee birthday crop for Trish. We have been celebrating all month long and for good reason, you only turn 40 once. So once again Happy Birthday Trish!!! I had a great time cropping and catching up with OLD friends(Nancy and her mom jeans)…no pun intended!!!!! you know I love you Nancy.

This week is summer CHA!  That means new stuff!!  Out with the old and in with the new!!  I just can’t wait to see all the new lines SGT will be getting soon…so check back often!  Julie

I love crops! With two little ones, it’s not easy for me to get a lot of scrapping done here at home. So going to a crop is a dose of much needed focussed scrapbooking time, company, supplies, and fun.

You’re lucky because there are a few that are upcoming. And you can’t beat the deals.

First off, every Tuesday morning, there’s a free crop. I pop into the store on Tuesdays from time to time, and let me tell you, those girls are having fun. Some of the regulars even bring snacks! Yum!

Then on Friday 8/14 and Saturday 8/15, there’s a back to back crop.
Friday, August 14 5 pm – 11 pm $12
Saturday, August 15 10 am – 10 pm $20
or come both days for $25 (if you do both days, you can leave your stuff at the store on Fri night)

And then the most fun one that coming up is Crop-cation
Friday, 9/4 thru Monday, 9/7.
A total of 36 cropping hours over those 4 days for only $50.
You come and go as you please. Your spot is reserver all 4 days so you can leave your project and supplies there the whole time.  I highly recommend this one!

So sign up now because spots won’t last.

How to prepare for a crop:

Prior to going to your crop, begin looking at what supplies you’re using most frequently so you can make mental notes of what to bring to a crop (specific inks, tools, embellishments, etc — your staples; your go to items). Most people recommend semi-planning out your layouts ahead of time. I know many of our girls will group patterned papers, coordinating cardstock, and embellishments with their photos into a separate bag so that all they need to do is pull out that “kit” and begin work.

If you’ve never been to a crop, don’t be intimidated. Everyone is super nice and helpful. If you need anything from a supply to advice on a layout, there’s plenty of people to help you out.

Hope to see you there!

It’s the end of the month, folks! That means one more day to spend $20 at SGT and qualify for August’s “Operation Save SGT” discount. Your $20 purchase during July, earns you a 10% discount off every single purchase in August! And that’s not all! Read more here.

The end of July also means we’ll soon be saying goodbye to the July Showcase (pictured below – though the layouts will migrate to other places in the store). But no need to get too sad because the new month will bring lots of brand spankin’ new stuff too! There’ll be a new showcase (look for it just in front of the ribbon wall, to your right as you enter the store). There will also be a new card kit of the month AND a page kit of the month. Ooooooooo! (They sell out quickly, so if you want one be sure to stop by right away!)

And since August is an “even” numbered month, that means we’ll also be having a class kickoff event the first Friday of the month (8/7).

SOoooooo many good things!070909 026 (Small)

If you haven’t heard of  Tag Me Monday, you’re in for a real treat. Every
Monday you will make a cute little tag that you can attach to a gift, add
to a page or just use as inspiration. It’s simple! Come in on a Monday and
spend $10.00 or more, or $20.00 if your part of Save SGT and the tag is
free otherwise, you can purchase the tag for just $2.00. If there are any
tags left you can purchase one at the front register. Hope to see you next
Monday, Happy Tagging!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I recieved the greatest compliment : ) My cousin thought the gift card tin I had put together from some of my paper scraps and ribbon was from Nordstroms!!! The tin held her Nordies birthday gift card, so she assumed the tin also came from there too.  I don’t think I’m at the “Nordstroms” level with my crafting, but hey every girl loves a compliment!!!

have you ever noticed those little brown paper bags that we give ya when you buy something little? have you just tossed it aside as trash? or held on to it with the intentions of using it for something? well, leave it to me…here are two uses for those bags…

the first, a layout i did a while back you may have seen…

nictrucksee it there with a tag tucked into it? it doesn’t matter if it gets wrinkled…actually, i prefer case you didn’t notice, i like distressing!

the second, i used as an envelope for a card…

vintagefaithenvie i folded up the bottom of the bag and glued my cotton lace over the end…you just have to be careful with the size of what you are slipping inside…especially if you are like me and add lots of fun vintage finds onto your card…i added a piece of patterned paper to the back of the bingo card on which i will write my sentiments…this is a card for a dear friend going through a rough time…so i will write her an inspirational note on the back…she can hang the card or display it on a shelf…and hopefully be reminded to keep the faith and believe that better days are on their way…

it is purely coincidental that both of these projects used jenni bowlin! the paper bag idea works with so many different papers…school paper would be perfect as would the new dream street cooking line!

Our last scraptherapy project of the month was designed by the ultra fab Valeree [or as I like to refer to her….Bambi 🙂 ]  We will be making this super cute owl card…check it outIMG_2432sm!  Whoo is going to have a great time on Thursday??  That would be us!  See you all then!!  Dr. Heidi Ho

I can’t sleep.  My mind won’t stop.  So I decided to surf the net in search of some good quotes, you know, the inspriational/motivational pick-me-up sort of quotes that instill you with this good feeling and renewed hope.  Anyway, I came across a few quotes that I simply had to share with someone.  =)

A day without scrapbooking is a day without sunshine.

Blessed are the children of scrapbookers, for they shall inherit the scrapbooks.

Just as pieces stitched together in a quilt warm our bodies,
Scrapbooks bind together memories to warm our Hearts!

If you don’t know your family’s history, then you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.
— Michael Crichton

Scrapbooking is cheaper than a therapist.  <– This made me think of our very own Dr. Heidi Ho.  =)

We do not spend our money on a lot of material possessions – we spend money to create memories for our children and others we love. Those are the only things one can take away. When health is gone or someone dies… or it’s a hard year at school, the memories are still there…to open the windows of a child’s mind…to make him or her laugh and feel warm and strong inside where it counts.
— Ann Kiernel Anderson

When life gives you scraps, make something with them. <– I especially ❤ this one, makes me think about lemons and lemonade… or some other type of happy beverage/shot/drink thing… =) Clever though, isn’t it?
— Author Unknown

Keep some souvenirs of your past, or how will you ever prove it wasn’t all a dream?
— Ashleigh Brilliant

Perhaps these quotes can help inspire you to scrap, if you haven’t in awhile.  Or provide a new topic to scrap about.  In any case, I thought they were uber cute and I hope you think so too.  =)

We all know how expensive weddings can be! So finding simple ways to reduce those wedding-related costs can be very helpful. And wedding place cards is a great example of that easy do-it-yourself project to help save money. Armed with cardstock, adhesive, ink and a rubber stamp, you can produce cards similar to the ones made for my cousin’s wedding (see pictures below.) Happy creating : ) Angie
