Archive for April 2009

I can’t believe April is just about over.   Well, one good thing about this past month.. I got to go to Disneyland!  After months of being deprived of my favorite places to go, Ryan decided to let me force him into spending his birthday at Disneyland.  Thank goodness for “Get in on your Birthday for Free!”  We had a blast.  Even if Ryan’s not a huge fan of the crowds or of Disneyland in general… Here is a quick pic: img_1157I was even able to get some of the pictures printed and used BoBunny’s “It’s my party” line of paper to create a layout.  Darn me for not taking pictures of it to post, but you should be able to find it somewhere in the store.  I even got to use my Quickutz Silhouette, which totally AWESOME!  That, and well, pagemaps is a lifesaver..  =)

There’s been a “Top 10 Things to do for National Scrapbooking Day” out for a few years now, so I thought I’d break it out again for 2009!

  1. Attend a crop or scrapbooking party! Of course, this would be #1 on the list! There is nothing better, and more motivating, than to scrap with friends! If you didn’t plan to attend a crop, be spontaneous and consider inviting some friends over!
  2. Go shopping! At Scrappin’ Good Times. How can you resist all the new paper and embellies the store has to offer!!
  3. Scrap by yourself! We all do this on other days of the year, but at the very least, do some scrapbooking by yourself today if you aren’t getting together with others.
  4. Learn a new technique! SGT has lots of great classes. Why not learn to use Copic markers–check out Chelle’s Copic Workshop in May
  5. Join a new email list/blog…..personally I think SGT is the best!!!
  6. Submit your best layouts to magazines!
  7. Organize!!!! A neat scrapping space is essential to creating your masterpieces.
  8. Scraplift!! Come into SGT for inspiration & ideas. Or spend some time reviewing your favorite scrapping magazines.
  9. Try something different! If you have always thought of using something non-scrapbooking related in your album, spend some time doing just that!
  10. Teach! I think one of the best ways to spend Nat’l Scrapbooking Day is to teach a non-scrapper your favorite hobby!

Well Barb and I stayed out a little later last night.  We were busy assembling the National Scrapbook Day Goodie Bags for all of you lucky ladies that will be attending on Saturday.  Did you think that there was a scrapbook fairy that filled those?  We had a fun time doing it though.

There is so much great stuff in those bags!  There might actually be two bags missing by this Saturday.  But don’t check my car or Barb’s… they won’t be in there either.  Have a wonderful time cropping!  Maybe I will stop by and say hi.

I stumbled on this website, which has a variety of camera strap slipcovers. There are many patterns to choose from and what a unique mother’s day gift this would make for the photographer in your family. Just thought I’d pass this along.

This new line from Glitz, just screams SGT. It is all about good times and pink and black…our signature colors…of course! Come in and check it out. We have tons of paper that is just to die for and some very cool embellishments like rub-ons and border stickers. The line is super cute and can be used for any girly occasion. I found this idea for a cute Mothers Day card using this new line on the Glitz Blog, there are some great ideas on there. Check it out!

Are you like me and wondering where the month of April has gone? Seriously, I have been completely out of it this month. Unaware of what date it is, when we have something going on, etc. It’s truly a miracle that I made it to the SGT Bus Tour earlier this month. Thank goodness I did. What a great time I had and boy did I find some great stuff!!!

I am crazy busy right now trying to prepare for my littlest one’s 1st Birthday Party this Sunday. So many crafty things still to do. Not to mention arranging for a cake. Still  deciding whether or not I want to make one or buy one. I think it’ll have to be store bought knowing me and how I push things to the absolute last minute. And what’s this I hear about rain in the forecast? Hello! Tomorrow is May! No more rain. I don’t have a backup plan.

OK so since my party projects are still in the coming together phase, I don’t yet have pics to share. BUT … since I know the store is officially closed for the evening, and tomorrow is May 1st, I think it’s safe to debut the Card Kit of the Month. Hopefully I don’t get busted and if anyone asks, it wasn’t me.

So here it is. There’s a limited supply of these on hand. I designed it with the idea of it being a Mother’s Day card. But I don’t think it’s too feminine to use it as a Father’s Day card. Or as a thank you card. Or to give to a friend. Anyways, I had fun with it so I hope you will too.

Don’t forget National Scrapbook Day is coming Saturday, May 2. If you are joining us here at SGT, you’re going to have soooo much fun! If you weren’t lucky enough to get a spot, be sure to get together with a group of  friends, have lunch, and crop together. Scrappin with your friends is like the best therapy there is!!!

for those of you that have seen me demo the copic markers, you know first hand how much i love and adore them…you have seen a wee bit of what can be done with them…today i want to share something new…a way to use these markers to enhance an image…you see, you don’t have to be a stamper to use or appreciate them…i have had several scrapbookers mention that they don’t stamp so the markers aren’t for them…so, let me show you something…

on this card, i did no stamping at all…the image is from the elements paper from ‘snorkel’ by cosmo cricket…and the circles were all punched out of the borders paper…i inked all the paper up with frayed burlap distress ink….now, do you see where i used the copic markers on this card to enhance my elements?  i used the W-1 marker on the boy image…i gave him all that great shading…then i used the R29 marker’s brush tip to add those tiny red dots along the edge of the ‘summer wishes’ circle…it adds a great little detail…

so, as you see, you don’t have to own ALL of the markers (as i dream of) or own any stamps to play with these fabulous, versatile markers!

the marker supply in the store is dwindling fast, so hurry if you want to play with them! these markers fly off the shelves!

hope your day is great!

My good friend and I spent a day scrapping while she was on spring break (she works at a school).  We don’t get to see each other that much so I think we do more gabbin’ than scrappin’  but we did complete a page for our London albums.  FYI…Jamie went to London with her family.  I think it’s going to take us forever to complete this entire vacation.  This page uses the Marakesh line from Basic Grey and the title was made with the Pazzles Inspiration.  Thanks for looking…Julie

If you missed it the first time around when the My Mind’s Eye Bloom and Grow line FLEW out of the store in February, we just got some more in.  It’s waiting for you!  And if you do like it, you’ll be happy to learn that several of our store projects for May are made from this line.

Hope to see you Friday night at the BIG sale to kick off the National Scrapbook Weekend!
