Scrappin' Good Times Blog

Archive for January 2009

Like I promised, while I was on my trip visiting Miami, I hit two scrapbook stores. I was a little disappointed though, because one of the two was closed on the day I made my trek out!  But I was able to pick up lots and lots of Florida themed paper and embellishments at the one open store. Also found some cute Me & My Big Ideas icons-peace symbol bling for my 60’s birthday party layouts! Once I got back home, made a straight bee line to Scrappin Good Times– I could barely wait to hear all about CHA!!! Everything I have seen so far looks REALLY cute and I’m EXCITED to see it all in person once we get it into the store.

I’ve been busy this weekend making some more inking blocks.  Everyone has been asking for them, and they will be for sale at SGT on Tuesday, February 3rd.  The last time I brought these in they sold in one day.   I’m working as fast as I can, and I will try to make twice as many as last time.   Each block sells for $.99 and comes with three felt pads.  Hope to see you on Tuesday!

I thought I’d share a couple of pictures from my favorite booth at CHA.  I’ll just warn you first, though, there is going to be a lot of great stuff coming in the next few months, so start saving and watch the blog to see when it comes in.

I loved the Graphic 45 booth.  It was filled with really cute samples of ways to use their paper.  You can literally decorate your house with it!

They set up a telephone booth, so of course we had to take a photo op.  We met up with Cindy and Allie there…

I love this one of Cindy —

I can hear her now, “Get me that paper right away!!!”

Here’s some of the boxes they had covered.  This is what I plan to do with all my photo boxes.  Then they will look nice enough to be part of my living room.   I can’t wait for this paper!!

And some cute little books they made.

And finally, here’s Devon with her favorite Quickutz QT, Chris…

I was telling everyone that I was going snow shoeing with the womens ministry of my church.  And they responded with…What is snow shoeing?  You know…it’s when you put those funky basket things on your feet and you walk in the snow.  Well, the funky basket things have improved to plastic things with blades and spikes on the bottom.  And yes, I strapped them to my feet and went on a 2 mile hike in the beautiful mountains in Running Springs.  I love to do adventurous things but my family is not really into being adventurous, especially snow shoeing.  They couldn’t believe I would want to do that!  Actually, my girlfriend, Shelli, talked me into going with her.  We had the best time and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day.  We did have a tour guide that was pretty chatty. We now can tell you about every tree, bush, and rock in the forest.  The best part, they said we could burn up to 1500 calories!! WhooHoo!!  But I don’t think we did. 😦  I can’t wait for the next adventure…they are planning a bike ride to the beach next, and then tight rope walking (sounds interesting), and even a white water rafting trip.  Double WhooHoo!!  I would love to do this!!  I will let you know how my adventures go.   Julie

There was actually 32 of us that went on the hike.  It was awesome!!

So as many of you already know, the good time girls had the privilege of attending CHA last week. I wasn’t too sure I would make it since I had just had surgery less than two weeks before, but I made it and boy was I glad that I did. I was like a kid in a candy store. It was so exciting to be able to check out the latest and greatest from all of our favorite scrapbook companies. I was able to do some great make & takes from companies like Basic Grey, Zutter and Maya Road. There were so many awesome new paper lines and tools, I can barely wait for them to start rolling in at SGT. So make sure you stop by the store often because you wont want to miss out.

Here is what I created using the We R Memory Keepers “Heart Attack” line for my challenge to myself (sSee my post from yesterday). I am also working on a mini album for a friend who had a baby girl last month. I realized that these papers are perfect for a little girl too. Only one or two of the papers actually say the work “Valentine”. I am really loving this line. Will post pictures of the mini album if I get it finished tonight, as is my goal.

In this picture you see the QK border dies I used — the hearts and the confetti. Love them! And to accent the confetti, I just took my white gel pen and drew in some shadow lines.

Do you ever finish laying out a scrapbook page and think, now I have to glue each piece down? It really bothers me, because I always feel I’m not going to get it to look the same. I know this sounds really anal, but I’ve come up with a solution that works. I use a small amount of temporary adhesive to lay my page out, and then go back with Zip Dry around every edge that lifts up. I not only get my page down perfect, but I also save on adhesive.

Here’s a peek at all the dies that were recently added to our die cut center. They are all so cute!  Dies are so much fun to work with and can add so much to any layout or card.  I’m currently updating our die cut sample book and will be adding some really cool Accucut shapes in the next few days.  Stop by the store and take a free die cutting class.  Once you’ve taken this class, you can  use our die cut center at any time.  The fee for using the die cut center is $2 for 15 minutes,  $3 for 30 minutes or $5  for one hour.  You can also purchase a monthly membership for $10 or a yearly membership for $50.

Will You Be Mine? That is the theme for the new line from Reminisce. I used this group of papers for a layout I had made for Crystal. This line has rich colors. Similar to a box of chocolates! Dark boudeaux’s. Reminisce called this line  Be Mine. And features wonderful shiny papers and great embellishments! In fact, there is a journaling embellishment that could easily be used on a completely different themed layout altogether (not a valentine one).

At my kid’s school we are having our Special Person’s Day this Friday. Each student brings to school their special person. I bought this group of papers to make a layout of that day. I like all the sparkly embellishments this line has… Happy Creating! -Susan B.

We just put out a new shipment of super cute bling from Prima. We have a huge selection of colors and designs. This bling is perfect for embellishing your pages, they come in flourishes and swirls and already have adhesive so that you can just simply add it to any page or project. Every time we have gotten these in they practically fly off the shelf, so I recommend you check these out before they are gone.
