Are you looking for a different idea for a scrapbook page?  I found one in a scrapbook magazine article that  was pretty neat, especially if you have kids.  It was about “reflecting on the past.”  The article talked about how we most often scrapbook our most current pictures.  Sometimes it would be nice to have a documented record about our past, or our family history that we would like our kids to know.  Suggested ideas were:  documenting “how you met your spouse,”  “how you spent your summers as a child,” “an honorable grandparent who went to war”, or “what were you like as a child.”  Wouldn’t it be fun to put together a scrapbook page with pictures from your past, and a story that maybe you have never shared with your kids?  Sometimes, I forget the little things who made me who I am today, and sometimes I forget that those “little” things might be fun for my daughter to read about.  She might actually believe that I was once a kid too!!!  🙂

So, I have to say that every time, at this time of year, I long to be back “home.”  “Home” for me is back on the east coast.  Even though I have been a California girl for quite some time, at this time of year, I remember being a kid, growing up in New York.  I used to take for granted the beautiful sights, sounds, and smells that Autumn brings.  The cool, crisp nights, the beautiful fall folliage…..I miss it all, as I sit here and write this blog with my fan AND my air conditioning blasting!!!

Have you wondered to yourself, wasn’t there a lil asian girl that worked here?  What happened to her?  Well… She’s been on the beautiful island of Maui for the past week and a half… Well, I’m still here, but I thought I’d check in and make sure that everyone knows that I’m still alive.  =)

Did you know… that Maui only has ONE scrapbook store on the whole island??  (well, if you don’t count walmart)  They have a LOT of hawaiian island paper…  But not a whole lot of anything else, except stickers… Made me miss SGT…  I’ll post pictures in a day or two…  =)

Have you signed up for SGT’s Crop for the cure? You don’t want to miss this. We will be cropping for a total of 17 hours!!! Wow…that’s a whole lot of cropping. Not only will you be able to accomplish some pretty awesomelayouts, but you will be contributing to help find the cure for breast cancer. I am sure that we have all been affected by this terrible disease in one way or another, whether it be a neighbor, friend, sister or mother. We all need to do our part to help find the cure. My Grandmothers have both been affected by breast cancer. My grandmother on my mother’s side fought the cancer for 3 years and thankfully won her battle. My dad’s mother unfortunately lost her life due to this terrible disease. Both my mom, sister and I have been doing our part to help find a cure since this has affected us so much. We should have started sooner, but we are doing our part now. We can all help to find this cure and what better way to do it than to scrapbook. So sign up as soon as possible. The cost is $60 and $20 of it will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation. If you cant make it for the crop, you can even stop by the store and purchase a raffle ticket, it will be $5 for 1 ticket or $20 for 6 tickets. Thanks for all of your support, each one of us can make a difference.

I can’t believe that next week is the 1st of October! Once we get to Halloween, the holidays come at us with lighting speed.  I feel like I’m trying to hold a door shut and all the holidays are knocking and ringing the doorbell, screaming for me to let them in. Don’t get me wrong though, I LOVE the whole fall/winter season. I guess I’m just going through the long summer day withdrawals already. I know eventually I’ll have to open that “door.” But for now, I’m going to crawl out the window and hit the beach one last time : ) Angie

American Crafts Fall Ribbon is now in the store! As you can see there are many patterns to choose from, in the popular fall colors. Ribbon can tie in colors on a page, add an element to a card, or to close a mini album. I just love the brown, orange and brick red combo. Priced to sell these will not be in the store long… Happy Creating. -Susan B.

A friend of mine and her daughter recently had lunch at Neiman-Marcus.  After their meal was finished, my friend’s daughter wanted a cookie.  To make a long story short, the Neiman-Marcus cookie was delicious so my friend asked the waiter if she could have the recipe.  The waiter said “yes” for two fifty.  My friend thought “great”.  She got the recipe but to her surprise when she received her statement, the recipe was $250.00.  She tried everything to get her money back but to no avail so she is sharing the Neiman-Marcus cookie recipe with all of us cookie lovers!  With the holiday season approaching, which means extra baking, I thought I would pass this on.  Enjoy!

NEIMAN-MARCUS COOKIES

2 cups butter                         24 oz. chocolate chips

4 cups flour                            2 cups brown sugar

2 tsp.  baking soda                 1 tsp. salt

2 cups sugar                           1 – 8oz. hershey bar (grated)

5 cups blended oatmeal          4 eggs

2 tsp. baking powder               2 tsp. vanilla

3 cups chopped nuts (your choice)

Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender to a fine powder.  Cream the butter and both sugars.  Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and baking soda.  Add chocolate chips, hershey bar and nuts.  Roll into balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.  Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.  Makes 112 cookies.  (Recipe may be halved)

Well today is the first day of Autumn. Would you not say there’s a new chill in the air? Much as I love Summer, I always enjoy when the weather begins to cool and the colors become more earthy. Browns, oranges, yellows, olive greens. All my favorites. Which means we all should begin to see these colors in scrapbooking lines coming out. So start thinking about those Halloween pages, Thanksgiving pages, and even just Fall pages you want to tackle this season. In addition, begin to think about pictures you want to take. Kids in costumes, kids bundled in warm clothes, kids on piles of leaves, etc. Plan now so you’re ready with camera in hand when the opportunity arises.

Farewell Summer. I love knowing that 9 months from now, I will be more than ready for your arrival.
